Ministries

Welcome Center & Gift Shop

The Welcome Center is located in the narthex of the Church and is open Monday through Friday, 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (closed during weekday Mass: 12:10 pm – 1 pm and Wednesday Eucharistic Adoration: 1 pm – 2 pm). We are here to welcome members of our parish and visitors alike, assisting with Mass intentions, tours of the Church, helping you to the right person and resources, answering questions about events, activities, Mass schedules and more. The Gift Shop, located in the Welcome Center, offers a curated selection of gift items ranging from Crucifixes and Rosaries to Spiritual books and Sacramental gifts for adults and children.

Free Community Dinners

Please join us every Tuesday, 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. (September - April, subject to change during the holidays) for a good meal and conversation. Everyone is welcome. Bring a friend!

Funeral Reception Ministry

Do you have a heart to help those who are hurting and grieving the loss of a loved one? If so, prayerfully consider joining this growing ministry group. Both men and women are welcome and encouraged to join us to set up tables & chairs, clean up after the reception, or bring desserts. Offering this chance for families to be together after a service for their loved one is both comforting and a corporal work of mercy.  To be included on the volunteer list, sign up here.

Ambassadors

Holy Name Church delights in hosting many visitors from near and far. Due to our  location and the beauty of our church, people are always passing through. In order to  welcome them, we desire to grow the number of individuals who are ready to welcome  and share the beauty of our church with others. Volunteers work in conjunction with  our Welcome Center and its host.

St. John's Bible Docents

Holy Name Church is fortunate to have a Heritage copy of the St. John’s Bible. The St.  John’s Bible is the first hand written bible of its scale produced in 500 years! Trained  docents volunteer to share the story of its creation, and offer glimpses into the more  than 160 major “illuminations” and production details of this amazing book. Audio/Visual Ministry

Assure the A/V media is used effectively at celebrations of the liturgy and the sound system is adjusted properly. AV Ministers run the cameras, sound board, and PowerPoint slides during our live and livestreamed Masses. Serve at one Mass per weekend according to a flexible schedule.

Church Flower & Candle Care

You will help with the watering, pruning, and rearranging of the flowers in the worship space during the liturgical seasons. The beauty of the worship space is especially enhanced during the Christmas and Easter seasons with additional flowers for which your help will be needed with arrangements. You also will maintain the votive candles.

Extraordinary Ministries of Holy Communion

You will assist the priests and deacons at Mass with distribution of the Precious Body and Blood of Our Lord to fellow parishioners. You also may choose to be part of the Ministry of the Sick and bring Holy Communion to the sick in hospitals, to those in nursing homes, and assisted living facilities and/or to the homebound. You must be 16 years of age or older to serve in this ministry.

Lectors

Proclaim the Word as a living dialogue which allows the assembly to hear, and respond, to God present among us at our Eucharistic celebrations and prayer services. Your activities will include reflecting on the Scriptures prior to proclaiming them at weekend Masses or daily Masses.

Sacristans

As a sacristan, you will assist the liturgical ministers during Mass and other liturgical celebrations in carrying out their responsibilities with order, reverence, and decorum. Master of Ceremonies serve at weekend Masses and holy day Masses, during the Easter Triduum, at weddings, funerals, Stations of the Cross, Holy Hours and other services as needed. You will attend rehearsals when held for preparation for special liturgies.

Pew Crew

The ministers of the Pew Crew team upkeep our worship space so that the faithful have a beautiful and clean space to encounter Christ and his people. Cleaning pews, straightening hymnal pockets, vacuuming, dusting statues, and more are some of the regular duties.

Sunday Mass Greeters

As a greeter you will welcome parishioners and our guests at one of the church entrances before and after a weekend Mass of your choice, as well as other liturgical celebrations. You will be available to answer common questions about our parish. Greeters may be individuals, couples, or families who welcome Mass attendees.

Ushers

You will provide a warm welcome to all worshipers, helping them to enter more fully into the Eucharistic celebration. Activities include greeting, seating, assisting the physically disabled, assisting with the preparation of the gifts, collecting the offertory collection, and assisting with the Communion lines.

Safety & Security Ministry

If you have a background or interest in safety and security, this ministry is the perfect fit for the use of your talents. Help develop plans, protocols, and procedures for awareness of safety in the event of an emergency. Assist at Masses and other events to enforce guidelines aimed at mitigating situations and rendering aid as needed.

Altar Servers & Candle Bearers (Grades 4-12)

You will serve at the altar and assist the priest and deacon with sincere devotion and decorum in the spirit of the liturgy. Carry the incense, processional cross, lighted candles at daily and weekend Masses, sacraments, funeral Masses, benediction, and prayer services. Training sessions are held for new servers and for current altar servers interested in additional responsibilities.

Cantors

Serving as a cantor at Mass is a chance for those gifted with the ability to sing to lead the assembly in song at weekend, holy day, and occasional daily Masses. In addition to their musical abilities, cantors are called to reflect on the responsorial psalm and the other music at Mass. You will need an audition with the director of music to serve in this ministry.

Instrumentalists

God has given many of our parishioners the talent to play musical instruments. We invite you to share your talent of the following instruments:  woodwind, brass, string, or percussion. At times we plan music that incorporates instrumental parts, and we invite you to share your musical gift in praise of God at Mass.

Choir

Witness your faith and help our parishioners lift their hearts to the Lord at Mass by singing in our choir for adults and high school age youth. This is your opportunity to sing beautiful music, for fellowship with others who love music and for a great seat at Christmas and Easter Masses! Previous choral experience not required.

Youth Options

Youth who are interested in participating in the Holy Name music ministry have several options for singing or playing instruments at Mass. Take advantage of these opportunities to witness to your faith and share your musical gifts for the glory of God and to aid our parish community in worshipping the Lord.

Donuts & Coffee

Don’t miss donuts and coffee following Sunday morning Mass. We gather for conversation, a little coffee and of course, donuts. This is a perfect opportunity for you and your family to meet other parishioners, families and our visitors.

Pancake Breakfast Celebrating Winter Carnival (February)

The Knights of Columbus provide a breakfast you will not forget with delicious pancakes and sausage for the entire family. Served up downstairs in the Enrichment Center following the 8:30 a.m. Mass. Don’t miss getting together with members of the Church and visitors alike.

St. Patrick's Day Celebration and Dinner (March)

All families are welcome! Celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day, presented by the Knights of Columbus. This popular Irish dinner is held in the Enrichment Center in the basement of the Church complete with the traditional fixings of corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, desserts and more.

Forth of July Celebration

All families are welcome! Celebrate our National Independence Day on the 4thof July following the annual downtown parade. Join us on the front lawn of Holy Name Church for brats, burgers, hotdogs and more.

Octoberfest

All families are welcome! Celebrate the fall season on the front lawn with brats, burgers and more. More details can be found in our September bulletin.

Annual Rosary Rally

Join us at noon outside Holy Name Church for the annual Public Square Rosary Rally. We  will be praying in unison with over 22,000 rallys being held all over the country,  coordinated by “America Needs Fatima”. The intention for the Rosary Crusade is to beg  God and Our Lady to save America from today’s chaos, immorality and social upheaval.

All Saints Day Costume Party & Potluck (November)

Choose a saint to get to know for this annual fun and fact filled evening. We are all called to be saints! Learn about many of our beloved saints by joining in this fun family event! Costumes representing your chosen saint may be as simple or ornate as you would like. Sharing a few facts you have learned adds to the fun. Come one, come all, bring family and friends whether you dress up or not! Bring a dish to share at the potluck.

Volunteer Appreciation Dinner

Every year we celebrate our volunteers by treating them and their families to an evening of entertainment, games, and great food! All volunteers are cordially invited and asked to RSVP.

Week-day Muffins & Coffee

Meet in the Church narthex following daily Mass on Mondays, Wednesday’s and Thursdays for coffee and a sweet treat. Another opportunity to visit with other Mass attendees and visitors.

St. Martin's 3rd Sunday Potluck

Please bring a dish to share and enjoy good food and fellowship every third Sunday of the month. Saint Martin’s, our sister parish is located in the Oak Creek, Colorado community. Just 21 miles south of Steamboat Springs.

Mass in the Mountains

Each summer the parish is invited to attend an 11am Sunday Mass at Stagecoach State Park. Mass is followed by a picnic lunch and water recreation at the reservoir. Paddle boards and pontoon boats provided. Bring a chair and prepare for a day in the sun. See bulletin for details.

Knights of Columbus Council

Become a member of this active group of Catholic men who come together in a spirit of charity and service to the Church. Be part of the many activities which include meetings, retreats, family activities, and community service. Meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month.

Clean Up Days

(Pre-Christmas, Holy Saturday, & June)

We need your help to clean the Church property, inside and outside. It is a large facility and requires all hands-on-deck to sweep, rack, weed, plant, mop, clean, disinfect, dust, organize, sort, wipe down, scrub and much more. Let’s make our place shine for our Lord. It takes a parish.

Marriage Mentor Couples

Mentor couples have the privilege to help marriage preparation couples appreciate their unique relationship, help them learn more about themselves, and discuss topics important to their life-long marriage by using their life-skills assessment.

Office Assistance Ministry

If you are an organized, friendly individual, assisting with office and Welcome Center duties may be the perfect use of your talent. You will assist with a variety of activities which may include help with mailings, special projects, copy work, or other pertinent office duties.

Operation Good Shepherd

Mission: In the tradition of the Catholic Church, the mission of Operation Good Shepherd is to be the compassionate presence of Christ in our community by providing assistance with essential needs for families and individuals in situations of spiritual and economic crisis, and/or unexpected fiscal insufficiency. Operation Good Shepherd funds are meant to financially assist community members of the Northwest Colorado Community. Goals of Mission: The goal of Operation Good Shepherd is to express the charitable values of the Roman Catholic Church. Operation Good Shepherd is willing to serve anyone in need with assistance including, but not limited to:

  • People affected by unfortunate circumstances

  • People who have exhausted other resources

  • People who have never experienced poverty before

  • People who have emergency needs that cannot be met by any other agency

  • People who need temporary assistance so they can regain their self-sufficiency.

Parish Library

Our parish library furthers our parishioners’ knowledge of Christ and the Church with the provision of educational resources for all ages with new and gently used books, DVD’s, and CD’s which were donated by our parishioners. You will help organize and maintain the library area.

Teach the Faith

Share your love of your faith and lead adults, youth and/or children to a closer relationship with God as a catechist. As an extra benefit, you will also have a better understanding of our Faith through teaching or leading classes.

You will teach in a team of two or more and have the option of a variety of classes to lead: Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, Children’s Liturgy of the Word, Confirmation preparation, Vacation Bible School, and more.

Graduation Mass

We congratulate all our Catholic graduating high school seniors with an annual celebration. As a senior, you will receive special recognition and a blessing at a Sunday Mass followed by a reception held in honor of all attending graduates.

Special Events

(GRADES 6-8, 9-12)

Be part of great social and spiritual activities that will introduce, or bring you closer, to Christ with other middle schoolers or high schoolers. Our events include Super Sundays every first Sunday, Mountain Madness conference (MS), Steubenville of the Rockies (HS), Annunciation Heights summer camp and more.
